Ladies Muay Thai Gloves | Review all Sizes & Colors

ladies gloves

I’ve come to wonder recently. When Muay Thai is concerned, all blogs and articles seem to cater to just men. All attention, description, and suggestions seem to point towards the male gender. Why? It’s not like there aren’t any female fighters.

ladies muay thai gloves

Of course, there are. In short, there are incredibly talented female fighters who are claiming the game real quick! That’s why I decided to divert a little and pay a little attention just to them. MOST female fighters have small hands and generally smaller wrists. Right?

But since most of these gloves are made particularly to suit more giant hands and wrists, I can say that the ladies are being left out. However, there are a few Muay Thai gloves made for lightweight ladies. All we need is a little more in-depth review of the sizes, and that’s it!

What Are The Types Of Muay Thai Gloves Available?

There are different types of gloves available for Muay Thai. And all the different types have significant differences and functions from one another. Some are made for typical usage in Muay Thai, while some are general gloves used for almost any activity. Let’s take a look at them;

Training Gloves

Training gloves are the standard Muay Thai gloves and can be used for various activities, including bag work, sparring (if the right fit and size are used), and bag work. They are fighter’s workman gloves and are made for regular basic training, but mostly the heavy bag and pad work not particularly soaring.

The training gloves are the most prominent in the market, and they come in different sizes, including ladies’ Muay Thai gloves sizes. I always recommend getting a pair of these in cases where you want to purchase your first pair of Muay Thai gloves, as they can be used for almost everything. You can get them in top brands and styles, and they are mostly unisex gloves.

Bag Gloves

This is specifically designed to be lightweight so that you can find it easy to punch heavy bags and pads more flexibly. They usually weigh about 6 oz to 12 0z, which is minimally lightweight for general Muay Thai gloves, which could weigh up to 16 or 18 oz.

The modern or western bag gloves are usually designed with shock-absorbing materials and pads which will protect the hands as you hit the heavy bag or pads with force. However, these gloves are technically neglected sometimes. This is because you could do very well off without them and with the regular training gloves. This makes them unnecessary and should probably be the last type of gloves you should ever think of buying.

Sparring Gloves

woman boxing

These are the most angular Muay Thai gloves and are made particularly to suit sparring. There is additional padding around the knuckle and wrist area to provide more support and protection for the hands and your opponent’s pretty face (not literally, ha-ha).

I like to think of them as very specialized gloves. But one thing I love about them is that they can also be used for various activities like regular gloves. They can be alternatively replaced by a 16 0z training glove in cases where they are not available.

Clinch Gloves

These are built to permit clinching while they are being worn. They are indeed very lightweight, with a special Velcro lining for protection, which will allow you to clinch even while the gloves are on. They are extra protective gloves that help prevents you from scratching your opponents with your fingernails and poking their eyes. All these mishaps are common while you clinch with your bare hands.

From my perspective and observation, I noticed that many Muay Thai fighters never use these gloves. They are unnecessary and only needed if you plan to spend more time in the clinch.

So, after reading this, the question you should ask is, ‘what type of ladies Muay Thai gloves do I want?’ Then that should bring you to the next thing; the size!

What Size Of Muay Thai Gloves For Females is Needed?

When it comes to getting Muay Thai gloves, you need to be careful. And when ladies Muay Thai gloves are considered, you need to pay extra attention, and you need to be very specific about it. The weight (or size) of the gloves is significant. You need to get the right size so that adequate protection will be guaranteed.

In lightweight women, a 14 oz glove is usually enough and does the necessary job. But heavyweight fighters (men) will need a bigger size.

Here is a quick rundown of the different gloves based on the different types available and appropriate for ladies Muay Thai gloves. Could you take a look at this?

PS: these sizes in BOLD are specifically made appropriate for ladies Muay Thai gloves.

Sparring Gloves Sizes

The appropriate size for lightweight or female fighters (who are below 140lbs) is 14 oz. That is the standard size required and ideal for ladies Muay Thai sparring gloves. But there could be exceptions, such as when the female is well built and heavyweight, a 16 oz sparring glove will be ideal.

Bag or Pad Gloves Sizes

In general, for both Men and ladies Muay Thai gloves, the recommended size is 12 oz. However, some heavyweight fighters will go for 14 oz. But I always advise buyers to go for lesser-weight gloves as they will enable you to throw faster punches at the heavy bag or pad. They will also provide the adequate support they should. You will appreciate them more.

Fighting or Competition Gloves Sizes

In Thailand, most matches usually utilize 8 oz gloves for the main competition. That is also the standard glove size for ladies size. But if the woman is heavyweight, the 10 oz gloves will be an exception.

So, just like the regular gloves for men, the size of ladies Muay Thai gloves will be dependent on the activities the glove is intended to be used for.

The Best Ladies Muay Thai Gloves Review

In this section, I will review the best ladies Muay Thai gloves according to various features and characteristics. They will showcase the ratings of how reliable each of the women’s gloves is according to specific requirements. So, take a look;

I assure you that these gloves mentioned in this review will be at the top of the game. So, if you’re having difficulty choosing one in the market, limit your options to these on this list. How does that sound? Is that okay?

In no particular order, they are;

1. Venum Contender Boxing Gloves

Durability: 9/10
Quality: 9/10
Fit: 9/10

Okay! Here we go with Venum again! This brand sweeps me off my feet with their products every time. And surprisingly, they have ladies Muay Thai gloves that are the deal. This contender series is way better than the challenger one, and if you seek more incredible features, this is undoubtedly for you.

For the price and features it offers, I say it’s the right blend for quality. It is available in different colors, and it is suitable for both beginners and advanced fighters. The high-quality leather is also a unique one that is proven to last for a very long time without wearing it out. In terms of colors and sizes, it is easier for women to find their sizes.

What I Like
  • They are very versatile.
  • The anatomical and ergonomic design improves comfort.
  • High-quality leather for durability.
  • Velcro closure for secure grasp and hold.
  • The thumbhole is attached.
  • The curved shape is designed structurally.
  • Excellent padding, multi-density foam, and shock absorption quality.
  • Perfect size for ladies Muay Thai gloves.
What I Don’t Like
  • It doesn’t have a mesh for thermal regulation.

My Verdict

If you love the Venum contender brand, this shouldn’t be an exception. If you trust the brand and find it worthy, then you should BUY IT!

2. Hayabusa Ikusa Charged Gloves

Durability: 8/10
Quality: 8/10
Fit: 7/10

These ladies Muay Thai gloves are more specifically designed for sparring. They are also made with high-quality leather that can withstand hard pressure. I am mostly fascinated by the superior protection of the hands and wrists.

They are handcrafted to perform the very purpose why you got them. In terms of breathability, they are superior as the inner lining is made to allow for exchange. In general, it is beautiful and beautifully designed since ladies are mostly about appearance. This is a good fit!

What I Like
  • The wrist and hand support is extended.
  • The glove is very breathable.
  • It is very versatile and can be used for bag works but mostly sparring.
  • The appearance is very suitable for women.
  • The inner lining allows for breathability.
  • They are ergonomically designed for comfort.
  • It has advanced wicking against moisture.
What I Don’t Like
  • It is expensive

My Verdict

If you can afford them, then you can’t go wrong with them either.

3. Venum Challenger 2.0

Durability: 9/10
Quality: 8/10
Fit: 8/10

This is another product made by the Venum brand, and I’m not surprised at how they made it to my review. This would mean that they make excellent ladies Muay Thai gloves. As I mentioned, the Contender series offers more features than the Challenger series, but these are not so bad. They are quite affordable for the features they offer and are ideal for any level of trainees.

Made from Poly Urethane leather, it offers absolute durability and tension retention. The foam padding is also in triple density, and it provides excellent shock absorption. It also comes with a curved anatomical shape, which helps ensure secure striking. Although the contender offers unique features, this one also has some striking features which make it stand out and compete with others.

What I Like
  • It is made with PU leather, which is an excellent one.
  • The triple-density foam padding improves protection.
  • It has a thumb part fully attached.
  • Very affordable.
  • Excellent shock absorption property.
  • Large and secure Velcro band.
  • A top Thailand brand manufactures it.
What I Don’t Like
  • Lesser breathability.

My Verdict

What a great product! Indeed Thailand’s Venum never seems to disappoint us. As for the contender series, this is just as useful. However, they are not as female-fitting as the former.

My Final Verdict

Since most glove companies don’t make individual Ladies Muay Thai gloves, that is why we have very few of them on our list. Other brands make unisex gloves, but they may not be very suitable for women. But if you choose to buy unisex products, there are a few things you need to consider.

Some of these things include weight, material, glove closure, style, and price. The weight suitable for women is between 8 oz to 12 0z. But you can look up the glove chart for more information.

In case you don’t already know, having Muay Thai gloves is an exceptional and essential gear you must have. They will provide you with comfort and protection, which is very important. And the strength of your gloves will play a useful role in every game you play. I repeat security is KEY!

When you are shopping for gloves, also remember that the perfect fit might not be so perfect. They might not be so exact for you, but all you need do is find one you are very comfortable with, and you are good to go.
